What "dedicated" means here

A dedicated developer is one engineer (or a small team) assigned to your product and nobody else's. They join your standup, work from your board, follow your definition of done, and raise trade-offs early instead of guessing. Behind them sits an Upforce lead who reviews the work, covers leave, and steps in if the engagement needs steering.

It is staff augmentation, not an outsourced project: you keep control of priorities and direction, we handle vetting, contracts, equipment and the engineering safety net.

Why teams hire dedicated developers through Upforce Tech

Only your product

A dedicated developer is not split across three clients. Their day is your backlog.

Vetted for depth

A real technical interview, not a keyword match. Mid to senior engineers who can defend their choices.

Your timezone

Three to five hours of daily overlap, arranged before day one, so standups and reviews are live.

Your process

Your repo, your board, your definition of done. We fit in rather than impose a method.

IP and NDA from day one

Ownership is assigned to you in the contract, signed before any access is granted.

No lock-in

Month-to-month terms. Scale up one engineer at a time, or scale down with 30 days notice.

Questions we get asked

How do you vet developers, and how many make it through?

Every engineer goes through a structured technical interview, a coding exercise reviewed by a senior developer, and a communication screen. Roughly one in ten people we interview ends up on a client engagement. You then interview the shortlist yourself and make the final call, so nobody joins your team without your yes.

A developer is not working out. What happens, and what does it cost?

Tell us in the first few weeks and we replace them at no cost; that period is effectively a trial. Later in an engagement we give you a like-for-like replacement within about two weeks, with a short paid handover overlap so context is not lost. You are not billed twice for the same ramp-up.

We are in the US, UK or Europe. How much real overlap do we get?

We agree the overlap before the engagement starts, usually three to five hours of your working day. That covers a live standup, code review and pairing. The rest of the day runs async against your board and pull requests, which most distributed teams treat as an advantage rather than a compromise.

Who manages the developer day to day?

You do, the same as a permanent hire: your standup, your board, your priorities. Behind them sits an Upforce lead who handles code review, covers leave and steps in if the engagement needs steering. If you would rather not manage day to day, hire a dedicated team instead, which comes with its own lead.

Is our code and data safe?

IP is assigned to you in the contract and signed before any access is granted. Engineers work on company-managed machines with disk encryption, access is provisioned per engagement and revoked when it ends, and we are comfortable working under your security policy and NDA.

Can we hire the developer permanently later?

Yes. After twelve months of engagement there is no conversion fee. Before that we agree a modest buyout so it is fair on all sides. We would rather you keep a developer you value than lose them over a clause.

What is included in the rate, and what is extra?

The rate covers the engineer, their equipment, code review, and oversight from an Upforce lead. Project management, dedicated QA and design are separate roles you can add. There is no setup fee, and no markup on an hourly rate beyond what is quoted.

How long until a developer is productive in our codebase?

For a reasonably documented codebase, expect small pull requests within the first few days and full pace inside two weeks. We ask for a short onboarding session, access, and a first task that is real but low-risk.
